Nusantara Disco Re-work

Well, first i listened to Indonesia record from cassette when i was junior high school boy. It was a fusion jazz music called Krakatau, sound come cassette is strangely different from any format, it was fluttering and hissing in every sound made me love to listen, because its really different from any cold digital mp3 file. It was day i loved cassette, i start collecting cassette i liked.

I know how make edit, i start make disco indonesia edit in 2012 with named NUSANTARA TROPIC DISCO, whats its in name?! i explain simply enough, tropic is Indonesia’s weather and Nusantara is old name of Indonesia. That would be perfect for name sake.

Start collecting what i had, and first volume, i edited band disco called “The Big Kids” it was a group band from Jakarta but composer was come from Philippines, his name is “Romy Katindig”. I remember my friend Diskoria, Merdi Simandjuntak told me, Original music was from Disco Tagalog album from Philippines only translated to Indonesia language. But music is all good.

Second volume is all come from band called Sophisticated, this whole LP recorded in LA, California. An Album is just amazing, variety songs is on it all. Two-step soul, quiet storm and disco fuel funk music. Just fantastic, grab it if you found.

Honestly, i don’t know much about disco getting hype in Indonesia back in other day, i asked my uncle about it, its was came from “Saturday Night Fever” movie, magazine and AM radio with shortwave frequency. Third volume were from many disco band, first track is “Kabut” which from a band called “Marini & The Steps” Legendary soul band and singer but around 70s, they made a lot disco songs. secondly was electric disco music titled “Disco Cha-cha-cha” original songs is from singer “Ernie Djohan”  Legendary pop singer Indonesia. Lastly famous one, song called “Damai” from “Guruh Soekarno Putra” and his vocal group “Swara Mahardika”. My edit is second version, there is orchestra version one which is original one, you can listen in Spotify

This whole compilation artwork and mastering process are made by myself. I searched image which fits with nuances, so i gather pictures from 70s Indonesia photos which are quite surprising good. Fourth edition of Nusantara Disco, “Dengar Music Disko” from band called “The Philliips & The Steps”, Hujan from The Rollies which is from my hometown; Bandung and “Senyumlah” from “Coconuts band” from Irian Jaya or Papua! Strangely all of them are like ordinary disco music sound because i don’t have much weird one in my collection.

Last one, edition of 5th. My friend helped me to get drum sound with DTX drum synth. “Pretty Sister” is the band which i edited and songs called “Bulan-Bulan Cita”. If you know Indonesia language, lyric are good tho. “Goyang Disko” from another “Marini & The Steps” band and “Jamrud Khatulistiwa” was from “Keenan Nasution” who originated from “Swara Mahardika” and of course with  “Guruh Soekarno Putra” as Composer.
